Hw Flashcards
Matter
anything that has mass and takes up space
Volume
a measure of the size of a body or region in three-dimensional space
meniscus
the curve at a liquid’s surface by which one measures the volume of the liquid
mass
a measure of the amount of matter in an objest
Weight
a measure of gravitational force exerted on an object; its value can change with the location of the object in the universe
inertia
a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.
physical property
can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter. Physical properties are used to observe and describe matter. Physical properties include: appearance, texture, color, odor, melting point, boiling point, density, solubility, polarity, and many others.
density
the ratio of the mass of a substance to the volume of the substance
physical change
a change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties
Chemical properties
a property of matter that describes a substances ability to participate in chemical reactions
Chemical change
a change that occurs when one or more substances change into entirely new substances with different properties
