HVLA Flashcards

1
Q

what is the mechanism for incerased ROM

A

joint traction separates teh surfaces of the joint which creates an incerase in joint volume

when partial pressure of CO2 is reached, the co2 that is dissolved whithin the synovial fluid forms a bubble which then collapses, this process is known as tribonucleation.

beacause of teh pressure and volume changes the joint has greater range of motion where there is greater mm of separation for the amount of force applied

Q

what is the decreased pain theraputic mechanism

A

hvla has an immediate effect in pressure pain sensitivity and reduction in pain

hvla can activate inhibitory interneurons that can inhibit the transmission of pain signals by creating a pain gate at the synapse between the first and second order neurons, blocking the pain signals from the site of injury from synapsing with the spinal cord and making it to the brain

it can also inhibit descending systems at the highest centres of the CNS, particularly the periaqueductal grey matter of the midbrain, by sending messages down the spinal cord to inhibit pain

Q

how do general ST mechanisms help to incerase fluid drainage

A

fluid systems are passive and rely on differentials of pressure to move fluid

omt stretches and moves joints that then screates pressure changes in and around teh joints, assisting in moving excess fluid

Q

how does general st ttt reduce pain

A

through mehcanotransduction which is the ability of the cell to sense, integrate, and convert mechanical stimuli into biomechnaical signals which have a part in deactivating pain signalling pathways

Q

HOW DOES MET ASSIST FLUID DRAINAGE

A

CONTRACTION AND RELAXATION CREATE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIALS WITHIN A JOINT WHICH CAN STRINGLY INFLUENCE PASSIVE SYSTEMS SUCH AN VENOUS AND LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
