Hvac Module 1 Introduction to HVAC Flashcards
What is a condenser
A heat exchanger that transfers heat from the refrigerant flowing inside it to the air or water flowing over it
What is a compressor
In a refrigeration system the mechanical device that converts low pressure low temperature refrigerant gas into high temperature high pressure refrigerant gas
What is a Evaporator
A heat exchanger that transfers heat from the air flowing over it to the cooler refrigerant flowing through it
What is a Expansion Device
Also know as the liquid metering device or metering. Provides a pressure drop that converts the high temperature high pressure liquid from the condenser in to the low temperature low pressure liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator
What is a heat pump
A comfort air conditioner that is able to produce heat by reversing the mechanical refrigeration cycle
What is heat transfer
The transfer of heat from a warmer substance to a cooler substance
What is a Hydronic system
A heating or air conditioning system that uses water as a heat transfer medium
What is Mechanical Refrigeration
the use of machinery to provide cooling
What is Noxious
Harmful to health
|
What is a Toxic
Poisonous
What are Humidifiers
Are used to add moisture to the air in cold weather months They are typically installed in the supply duct of a furnace
What is a refriegerant
a substance used for cooling or refrigeration
What is the difference between a Hermetic and a semi Hermetic compressor
A hermetic compressor is a sealed compressor which can not be disassembled. While a semi hermetic compressor or serviceable compressor can be partially disassembled for repair
Dual purpose systems
A system used for both heating and cooling
What is ventilation
Is the introduction of fresh air into a close space in order to control air quality
What is a bond
Short for surety bond it is a funded guarantee that a contractor will preform as agreed
What is Carbon Monoxide (CO)
A common byproduct of combustion processes, CO is a colorless tasteless and orderless gas that is lighter than air and quite toxic CO reacts with blood hemoglobin to form a substance that significantly reduces the flow of oxygen to all the parts of the body.
What is Chlorofluorocarbon CFC Refrigerant
A class off refrigerants that contains chlorine, fluorine and carbon CFC refrigerant have a adverse effect on the environment
What is Easement
A portion of a property set aside for public utilities or municipalities
What is Hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerant
A class of refrigerant that contains hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon
What is the International Building Code (IBC)
A series of model construction codes. These codes set standards that apply across the country. This is an ongoing process led by the International code Council (ICC)
What is reclaimed
used refrigerant that has been remanufactured to bring up to the standards required of new refrigerant.
What is recovery
The removal of and temporary storage of refrigerant in containers approved for that purpose
What is Recycling
Circulation recovered refrigerant through filtering that remove moisture acid, and other contaminants
What is sustainable Construction
Construction that involves minimum impact on the land, natural resources, raw materials, and energy over the buildings life cycle it uses material in a way that preservers natural resources and minimizes pollution
