HVAC BASICS Flashcards
HVAC
Stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning - the technology used for indoor and vehicular environmental comfort.
BTU (British Thermal Unit)
A unit of measurement for heat energy. It represents the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.
Thermostat
A device that controls the temperature of a heating or cooling system by sensing the current temperature and adjusting the system accordingly.
P & L
Profit and Loss
SEER
(Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio): A measure of the efficiency of an air conditioning system over an entire cooling season. Higher SEER ratings indicate better energy efficiency.
AFUE
(Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency): A measure of the efficiency of a heating system, particularly in furnaces, indicating the percentage of fuel converted to usable heat over a year.
MERV
(Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value): A rating system that measures the efficiency of air filters in HVAC systems. Higher MERV ratings indicate better filtration.
Compressor
A component in the HVAC system that pressurizes refrigerant gas, increasing its temperature and allowing it to release heat outside.
Air Handler
The indoor component of a split HVAC system responsible for circulating air through the ductwork.
Thermal Insulation
Material used to reduce the transfer of heat, helping maintain desired temperatures and improve energy efficiency.
HSPF
(Heating Seasonal Performance Factor): A measure of the efficiency of a heat pump over the heating season. Higher HSPF ratings indicate better energy efficiency.
Sales Funnel
A metaphorical funnel representing the stages that potential customers go through before making a purchase, starting from awareness to the final sale.
Value Proposition:
A statement that communicates the unique value and benefits of a product or service to the customer.
Cross-selling
Recommending additional products or services that complement or are related to the customer’s initial purchase.
Closing Ratio
The percentage of prospects who become customers, indicating the effectiveness of the sales efforts.
