What are the 2 types of humidity?
Absolute and relative humidity
What is humidity?
Water vapour in the air
How does humidity (high and low) make you feel, and why?
High humidity makes you feel hotter, low humidity is the converse (because of evaporation)
What is absolute humidity? (not tested i think)
Absolute humidity is the mass of water vapour in the air divided by the mass of humid air in a certain volume at a certain temperature
Can hotter air hold more or less water vapour?
Hotter air can hold more water vapour than cooler air
What is Relative humidity? (you must know this)
Relative humidity is the ratio of the current absolute humidity to the highest possible absolute humidity, which depends on the current air temperature
What does a RH of 100% mean?
RH of 100% means that the air is totally saturated with water vapour
What is the RH at the clouds when it rains? (or is about to)
The RH has to be 100% where clouds are forming for it to rain, but at ground level, where the rain falls, the RH does not have to be 100% (can be less)
What happens to us if the RH is very high?
If the RH is very high, the sweat on our body won’t evaporate as quickly or as easily, so we feel hotter than the actual temperature (The converse of the above point for low RH)
What is a comfortable RH?
A comfortable RH is around 45% (supposedly)
What is the answering technique for Humidity?
- Describe a relationship (if necessary)
- Use relevant given information as evidence to support
the relationship or any applicable point or claim
