HUMIDITY Flashcards
PRECIPITATION
WHEN WARM MOIST AIR NEAR THE GROUND RISES INTO THE SKY. THE ASCENT OF THIS AIR CAUSE ITS DECREASE IN TEMPERATURE BELOW DEW POINT. MOVING AIR ON COLLIDING WITH DUST PARTICLES IN AIR CAUSE IT TO SHED EXTRA MOISTURE. THE CONDESATION OF THE WATER VAPOUR OCCURS AROUND THE HYGROSCOPIC NUCLEI LIKE DUST PARTICLES, POLLEN GRAINS,E.T.C.
CLOUD FORMATION-
WHEN DROPLETS OF WATER VAPOUR CONDENSE AROUND THE NUCLEI AND REMAIN SUSPENDED IN AIR.
WHEN PRECIPITATION OCCURS-
WHEN THE WATER VAPOUR CONDENSE AROUND THE HYGROSCOPIC NUCLEI THEY FORM WATER DROPLETS. THEY REMAIN SUSPENDED IN AIR IN THE FORM OF CLOUDS. THE CLOUDS GET BIGGER AS MORE AND MORE WATER DROPLETS ARE ADDED TO IT. IT STARTS PRECIPITATING WHEN THE CLOUD CANNOT HOLD ANY MOISTURE OR WHEN AIR BECOMES FULLY SATURATED AND R.H BECOMES 100% .
WHAT IS DEW?
WHEN WATER DROPLETS CONDENSE ON THE SURFACE IT FORMS TINY DROPLETS CALLED DEW. IT OCCURS COMMONLY IN WINTER ON ACCOUNT OF COOLING OF AIR BELOW DEW POINT.
FROST-
IN VERY LOW TEMPERATURE, WHEN WATER VAPOUR CONDENSES AT GROUND LEVEL IT FORMS MINUTE CRYSTALS OF ICE ON OBJECTS NEAR GROUND FOR E.G- BLADES OF GRASS, LEAVES AND TINY ROCK PARTICLES.
