Humidity Flashcards
What happens to latent heat during melting?
Absorbed
What happens to latent heat during evaporation?
Absorbed
What happens to latent heat during condensation?
Released
What happens to latent heat during freezing?
Released
What does water vapour require in order to condensate?
A nuclei to bind to e.g salt, dust
What is absolute humidity?
The total amount of water vapour present in a given volume g/m^3
What is saturation?
When a parcel of air contains the maximum amount of water vapour that it can hold
How does temperature effect saturation?
The warmer the air, the more water vapour it can hold
What is relative humidity?
The ratio of the mass of water vapour in a given volume to the maximum mass of water vapour that volume can hold
How does temperature effect relative humidity?
As temperature decreases, relative humidity increases
What is the dew point?
The temperature at which a parcel of air saturates (100% RH)
What is likely to form when temperature and dew point are close?
Low cloud or fog
What is the equation for relative humidity?
RH% = 100 - (5 x (Temp - Dew point))
