Humerus Flashcards
Which muscles insert on the greater tubercle of the humerus?
3 muscles:
Teres minor
Infraspinatus
Supraspinatus
Which muscle inserts on the lesser tubercle of the humerus?
Subscapularis
Which muscle inserts on the lateral lip of the intertubercular sulcus?
Pectoralis major
Which muscle inserts on the medial lip of the intertubercular sulcus?
Teres major
Which muscle inserts on the intertubercular sulcus?
Latissimus Dorsi
Which muscle is an adductor of the humerus?
Latissimus dorsi
Which muscle medially rotates the humerus?
Latissimus dorsi
Which muscle inserts on the shaft of the humerus?
Coracobrachialis
Which muscles originate on the humerus?
2 muscles:
Triceps brachii - medial and lateral heads
Brachialis
Which muscles originate on the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus?
2 muscles:
Brachioradialis
Extensor carpi radialis longus
Which muscles originate on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus?
Common extensor origin - 6 muscles: Extensor digiti minimi Extensor digitorum Extensor carpi radialis brevis Supinator Extensor carpi ulnaris Anconeus
Which muscles originate on the medial epicondyle of the humerus?
Common flexor origin - 5 muscles: Pronator teres Flexor carpi radialis Palmaris longus Flexor carpi ulnaris Flexor digitorum superficialis
Which is the most common location of humeral fractures at the proximal end?
The surgical neck of the humerus
What is an impact fracture?
Where one bone fragment is driven into the spongy bone of another fragment. This is usually due to the force of a fall on the hand.
What is an avulsion fracture?
When the greater tubercle is pulled away from the head of the humerus. A fall onto the acromion of the scapula usually causes this fracture in the middle aged and elderly. In young adults, it can result from falling in the hand when the arm is abducted.
