HUME Module 1.3 Flashcards
Anything that is living and occupies a place of area called habitat.
Organism
Group of interbreeding organisms living within a specific area
Populations
Characteristics of Populations (2)
Size and Extends through time
A number of populations of different organisms that occupy & interact in a given area.
Community
Any defined area of nature that includes living organisms & non-living substances
interacting with each other.
Ecosystem
A major unit of the Ecology
Ecosystem
Structural components of an ecosystem (2)
Biotic and Abiotic (Non-living & Living)
One organism serves as the
food source for another.
Predator-prey interaction
relationship between species that is
beneficial to one, but neutral or of no benefit to the other.
Commensalism
beneficial to both organisms; the interaction is necessary for the survival and growth of each species.
Mutualism
interaction between two species in which one benefits at the expense of the other organism (parasite-host).
Parasitism
auto-trophs/self-productive biotic components
Producers
herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores are examples of this kind of biotic component
Consumers (Macro-consumers)
saprotophs biotic components
Decomposers (Micro-consumers)
It is a series of feeding
relationships between organisms that
shows who eats whom.
