what is the main assumption of the humanistic approach?
every person has unique way of perceiving and understanding the world, subjective.
what is self-actualisation?
all people have innate tendency for growth and fulfilment of potential.
what is the pyramid used in this approach called?
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
what are the stages in hierarchy of needs (from bottom up)?
psychological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs and self-actualisation
what did Rogers say about self-actualisation?
only happens if positive self-regard. unconditional positive regard from others. congruence between ideal self and self image.
what is incongruence?
gap between ideal self and self image due to conditional positive regard.
what are conditions of love?
Placing limits or boundaries on parents’ love of their children; e.g. ‘I will only love you if…’.
