Human wellbeing Flashcards
Explain the impact of Health, Wealth and Education on Wellbeing
Health, wealth, and education are really important for a good life. Being healthy lets you do everyday things, play sports, and hang out with friends. Wealth means having enough money for food, a safe place to live, and other needs. Education helps you get good jobs, make smart choices, and understand how to stay healthy. All three work together: if you’re healthy, you can work and earn money; if you have money, you can get better education and healthcare. Improving one area often helps improve the others, making life better overall.
Distinguish between primary requirements and secondary requirements for wellbeing
Primary Requirements:
Fresh Water: Access to clean water is essential for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.
Food Supply: Availability of sufficient and nutritious food to sustain health.
Shelter: A secure place to live that provides protection from the elements.
Clothing: Appropriate clothing to protect against weather and maintain health.
Safety: Security and protection from physical harm and danger.
Secondary Requirements:
Ability to Make a Decent Living: Having opportunities for employment or income to support oneself and one’s family.
Good Health: Access to healthcare services and the ability to maintain physical and mental health.
Access to Education: Opportunities to learn and gain knowledge and skills for personal and professional development.
Factors that affect wellbeing and inequality -Environmental-Social-Economic-Historic-Political
Environmental: Food and water availability depends on natural factors like rain, temperature, soil quality, and rivers, and human actions like building dams, farming methods, and land use. These factors cause shortages in some areas, making it hard for people to survive and forcing them to skip school to collect water. Health problems are common in these regions, with diseases like cholera and dysentery spreading due to dirty water, and famine causing hunger and malnutrition. If a country has natural resources like oil, diamonds, copper, they make more money from selling these to the rest of the world = country more wealthy = people have more.
Social: Population increase due to better water, sanitation and access to healthcare means more people living longer. This will create significant challenges in providing food, water and shelter, as well as access to education, employment and health facilities.
Conflict: leads to reduced quality of life because ppl have to fight, less access to healthcare, loss of life, can’t connect with other people, being scared all the time.
Not being able to go to school.
Gender Inequality: 3/4 of all primary school aged kids with no access to education are girls. In almost all countries men are paid more than women (gender pay gap) and are more likely to own land. Globally only 25% of government is women.
Outline the difference between primary and secondary research methods
Primary research involves gathering firsthand data through methods like surveys and interviews. Secondary research relies on existing sources such as books and articles. Both have pros and cons, with primary research being more specific and tailored, while secondary research is based on pre-existing data.
Explain how the access to goods, services and facilities can improve a community’s overall wellbeing.
Access to goods, services, and facilities plays a crucial role in enhancing a community’s overall wellbeing in various ways. By having easy access to essential goods like food, shelter, and healthcare, community members can lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Access to services such as education, transportation, and public safety not only improves individual opportunities but also contributes to a safer and more inclusive community environment. Additionally, facilities like parks, recreational areas, and cultural institutions promote social interaction, physical activity, and mental well-being, fostering a sense of belonging and community cohesion.
