Human Vision System Flashcards
Human Eye and the 15 parts of it
What sensors does retina have?
Cones and Rods
Keys points of Cones
they are located around the fovea
Very good at seeing details in bright light
We move our eyes such at the part of the image we are focusing on is projected into the fovea
Keys points of Rods
spread uniformally around the retina
Great in dim light and giving a more general overview of the scene.
What are the benefits of having a broad range of intensities of receptors accros the retina
Leads to being able to percieve a board range of light intensities
But not all at the sametime (can see in dark or light but not both at the same time) as this property requires the cells to be able to adapt.
Allows for discrimination between detail in both high and low levels of light. - I.e finding your seat in a cinema.
What is on the blindspot?
it is a part of the retina with no receptors on it
Explain webers law
When it is dark, it requires a much greater change in light intensity to be able to disguise it. I.e not being able to tell if something is blue or purple in a dark room
And requiring a low level of light intensity change to be able to disguise it in a light room. I.e being able to disguish between two hues of pink in a light room.
What is Machs law
Where the perceived intensity of something with a uniform and contant intensity can be percieved as if it is changed. I.e when dark is next to light the light looks as if it has a gradient = to a kick in the intensity of the surrounding light.
