Human Skeletal Muscles of the Leg Flashcards
groin guy that runs thru the pelvis
psoas major
the muscle on the inside of the pelvic fossa
illiacus
lateral upper part of the leg, just anterior to the IT Band
tensor fasciae latae
lateral band down the outside of the quad
Iliotibial band
muscle band that comes diagonally from the later. side down to the medial side of the front of the quad
sartorius
the muscle in between the pubic sympysis and the veins/arteries of the leg
pectineus
connects to the pubic symphysis, goes down towards the lateral side of the leg
adductor longus
on the back inside of the leg, kinda under the gracilis
adductor magnus
on the inner thigh on top of the adductors
gracilis
middle middle of the quad
rectus femoris
big lateral side of the quad, just lateral to the rectuss femoris
vastus lateralis
teardrop on the medial side of the quads
vastus medialis
right under the vastus lateralis
vastus intermedius
inside or medial of the gluteus maximus
gluteus medius
outside big butt cheek
gluteus maximus
lateral side of the “hamstring”
biceps femoris
also part of the “hamstring, just slightly medial to the biceps femoris
semitendinosus
inside at the bottom of the semitendinosus
semimembranosus
tear drop just inferior to the gluteus medius also deeper to the gluteus maximus
piriformis
a horizontal muscle deep to the gluteus maximus, the most superior muscle under the white tendon band, horiontal when the leg is straight up and down
superior gemellus
just inferior to the obturator internus, the third from the top in the deep to the gluteus maximus small white band covered muscles
inferior gemellus
seccond from the top in the deep to the gluteus maximus small white band covered muscles, also in between the gemellus muscles
obturator internus
tthe 4th from the top, rectangular, muscle in the deep to the gluteus maximus small white band covered muscles
quadratus femoris
the inside head of the calf muscle
medial head of gastrocnemius
outside head of the calf muscle
lateral head of gastrocnemius
long thin muscle under the lateral side of the gastrocnemius
soleus
bottom middle tendon of the leg, over the heel
achilles tendon
main long body on the lateral side of lateral gastrocnemius
fibularus longus
bottom tendon part of the fibularis longus
fibularis brevis
front main shin bone muscle
extendor digitum longus
shin muscle on the medial side of the tibia
tibialis anterior
muscle on the posteriaor medial side of the lower leg
flexor digitorum longus
thin sheath on top of the front side of the ankle
extensor retinaculum
back middle of the upper lower leg, just inferior to the popliteus, deep to the gastrocnemius
tibialis posterior
back of the knee joint, deep to the gastrocnemius
popliteus
muscle deep to the achiles tendon
flexor hallucis longus
