What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

A

It is 30 rights that all humans deserve. It was created around 1948 by Eleanor Roosevelt. It spread throughout the world, and if the government didn’t not follow it they would hurt that government in a peaceful way.

A

It is a group of countries that try to keep peaces and solve problems (economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian international problems). It started with 51 countries and now it has 193 countries.

What was the Indian Removal Act?

A

The U.S. government took Native Americans from their home in 1930’s because they wanted that land. Andrew Jackson was the one who passed the act.
1. Who? Choctaw, Seminole, Cherokee Fox, Chickasaw Creek, Sauk, Andrew Jackson, Supreme Court, and white citizens
2. Where? South East America to Oklahoma
3. When? 1830’s
4. Why? To obtain more land, didn’t thinks Natives were equal, and more resources.
5. How? Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act. He used force and even when they won court case and it was declared unconstitutional, he ignored it.
The Georgia Lottery divided the land and put it into a lottery. if you won a space you would go their kick out the Natives and take it for your selves.

What was the Trail of Tears?

A

It was the path the Natives walked to get across the Mississippi River, todays Oklahoma. At that time it wasn’t U.S. territory and was a dry desert with nothing in it. Around 100,000 were forced to leave without getting a chance to pack. Suffered disease, harsh temperatures, starvation, lack of resources, and around 15,000 died.

What were the Japanese Internment Camp?

A

They were these camps in which 70% of Japanese-Americans were forced to live in for three years(110,000). They did this because of the attack on Pearl Harbor, they used them as scapegoats. They were rations on food, no privacy, and harsh living conditions. When they came back most of their stuff was taken or gone and they faced racism. Many lost homes and other important things.

Who was Franklin Delano Roosevelt?

A

He was the 32nd president of the United States and was president between 1933-1945. He also passed executive order 9066 which forced 110,000 Japanese Americans into Internment Camps. 2 and a half hours after Pearl Harbor, Japan declared war on the U.S. and so they joined the war.

What was the Attack on Pearl Harbor?

A

On December 7th 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor killing 2,300 Americans in 2 hours. They sunk many battleships and 2.5 hours later they declared war on the U.S., because of this the U.S. used Japanese Americans as scapegoats.

A

Negative thoughts or ideas about a certain group. (Don’t get confused with prejudice, bias is negative thoughts or ideas, while prejudice is a negative attitude to a group)

A

It was a set of laws of segregation in South Africa, between 1948-1994. The ANC and Nelson Mandela fought to end it.

A

He was a person who fought against apartheid, and was the leading member of the ANC. The government declared the ANC illegal. He was thrown in jail for 40 years, hard labor, and only 1 visitor per 6 months. First African American president in South Africa and won a Nobel Peace Prize for ending apartheid.

A

He was the president of South Africa in 1989, plus won a Nobel Peace Prize for helping end Nelson Mandela in ending apartheid.

Supports their country’s interest, especially to the detriment of another nation. (It is different from patriotism, because they have so much devotion they could harm others)

A

A document between Germany and the Allied Powers at the end of World War 1. Germany had to pay reparations for the whole war, was forced to give land, and give up most of their military and had no defense to protect them selves.

What was World War 1?

A

Assassination of a Hungarian Archduke. Which created a domino effect of entangled alliances. It was between July 28, 1914 - November 11, 1918. It was a war between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. 135 countries involved and had titles such as The Great War and The War to End All Wars.

What was The National Socialist German Workers Party?

A

It was known as the Nazi Party, it was political party in Germany between 1920-1945, which supported the ideology of Nazism.

Who was Adolf Hitler?

A

He was an Austrian solider in WW1. He blamed Germany’s defeat on Jewish people. He was thrown into jail after trying to stage a coup. He wrote Mein Kampf. After this he became the leader of the Nazi Party and slowly became the dictator of Germany and started WW2 and the Holocaust.

A

It was a book written by Hitler in prison. It showed his plans and what he was going to do. The English translation is My Struggle.

A systematic, state-sponsored execution of Jews. Killing approximately 6 million Jews. In Greek it means sacrifice by fire.

A

A specific area where Jews for them to live, not allowed to leave the camp. Made to hold a large number of prisoners. Terrible conditions and where they were killed.

What is antisemitism?

A

It is being bias or prejudice toward Jewish people and the religion of Judaism. The Nazi were antisemestic, which lead to the Holocaust.

What is the Milgram Experiment?

A

It was an experiment to see how normal people could do something so cruel in the Holocaust. They took people and said that it was a experiment to see how punshment effected learning. Then they would hire actors who act like the student. They would fake shout and pain when they get the question wrong, because every time they get it wrong the teacher would increase the voltage in the electric shock. They found out that people will listen to an authorian leader, even if it is moraly wrong.

Who is Bashar al-Assad?

A

He is the “president” of Syria. The elcetions were rigid, because no one was allowed to run against him. After Arab Spring, many people decid3ed to go against him. Soon violence started, because of this there is a civil war in Syria. It is very complicated because of the different countries involved. It is the people vs. the goverment. He even decided to let extremist groups go, so they could team up with the poeple. They did this so, governments can’t help them.

A

Some who leaves their country because of war or a crisis.

A

A place in a country in which refugees are alllowed to stay until the crisis is over.

A

A cheap bomb in which they fill with shrapnel. When the tip hits something it explodes and shrapnel goes everywhere.

A

It is Jerusalem, it’s in Isreal. For Jews, it is where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son. For Christians, it is where Jesus died and was resurrected. For Muslims, it is where Muhammed rose to Heaven.

The Gaza Strip is a Palestine place in which the politcal party Hamas is. It is more violent, but it is alos more poor and it depends on the UN.

The West bank is more peaceful and it is trying to find a solution with Isreal.

A

They are an ethnic minority, they are nomadic Turkic people and are native to Xinjiang. Many are Muslim, they are being detained and forced under hard labor. Some classify these as concentration camps.

A

They are tools to respond to geopolitical challenges such as terroism and conflict. They are used by many governments. Examples can be travel bans, asset freezes, arms embargoes, and trade restrictions.

A

It is a place in northwestern China. It borders Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan, Afighanistan, Pakistan, and India. It is sparsley populated and Uighurs make half ot the population. They are a lot survelliance and gaurds there because of this.

Who are the Han Chinese?

A

They are the largest ethnic group in China. They come from the Han dynasty which ruled over China and influenced it in 206 B.C.E. That time is reffered to as the Golden Age of China.

What is Sterilization?

A

It is a medical operation to stop women from having children. They force the women in the camps to become sterilize, so the birth rate of the Uighurs will decrease dramatically.

A

It is when international parties are boycotting something as a government. Right now America, Britain, Canada, Austrailia, Lithuania, and Kosovo are boycotting the Olympics in Beijing.
