What is job enlargement?
Increasing the scope of a job, also known as job rotation
What are the advantages to job enlargement?
Relieves boredom of work
A more interesting job means less absences
Workers are more motivated because they have a wider skill set
Workers are participating in more decision making
What are the disadvantages of job enlargement?
Fall in specialism as workers take on more responsibilities
Jobs that relieve boredom but are still repetitive will not be satisfy workers
What is organisational design?
The process of reshaping an organisational structure and roles to fit in with the strategy of the business
What is an organisational structure?
The relationship between different people and functions in an organisation, this can be vertical or horizontal
What are the influences on organisational design?
Size - the larger the business the more complex the structure
Nature of the business - manufacturer or service business
Culture and attitudes of senior management - autocratic or democratic
Skill and experience- the skill of the workforce determines how much supervision is required

What is the definition of delegation?
The assignment of responsibility or authority to another person in the workplace
What is authority?
The power to give orders, make decisions and enforce obedience
