employment act 2002 the government gave employees the right to request more flexible working patterns from their employer
introduced the right for parents of young and disabled children to apply to work a flexible working arrangement
most have more than 6 months service to request flexible working arrangement
types of flexible working methods
part time staff - suitable for young children and parents - provide flexibility for the business ( peak days - weekends )
flexible hours - worker has agreed to work a certain number of hours in those hours they have specific hours called core hours that they must work and the other hours can be worked on a flexible basis
zero hours contract - worker has to be available to work but is not guaranteed work
- if employer busy can higher them they get payed full time salary if no demand then won’t have work - no income security
home working - pc and broadband connection working from home - save stress and time of commuting & saves on overheads less office space required
hot desking - worker work on communal computers and desk instead of being individually allocated a workstation
temporary staff - employed for a limited time period
A- business try workers out before permanently hiring , cost may be lower don’t have to pay as much as full time workers
d- less motivated / productive , less reliable and more likely to leave
job sharing - 2 people share 1 job that they split 50-50- helps professionals keep working for when they take a break
multi-skilling - business training workers to work across multiple ranges of tasks efficiently
where is flexible working most likely to be found
large organisations , public sector organisations , businesses not in a highly competitive industry
