Q

Why does the lining of the uterus shed every month?

A

If an egg drops down from the ovaries into the uterus, it expects to be fertilised and have a soft place to nest (the uterus). However if the egg is not fertilised within a few days, the lining and egg do not need to be there so they break down and are disposed of through the vagina.
