Stimulates cells of Leydig to produce testosterone in the testes.
What does LH (luteinizing hormone) do in girls?
Stimulates ovulation.
What does FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) do in boys?
Stimulates spermatogenesis.
What does FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) do in girls?
Stimulates follicles in ovaries to mature and produce oestrogen and an ovum.
Is gametogenesis meiosis or mitosis?
Meiosis.
What is spermatogenesis?
The formation of sperm from germinal epithelium cells that line the seminiferous tubules of the testes.
What is oogenesis?
The formation of ova from germinal epithelium cells that form the outer layers of the uterus.
What are the 3 main parts of a sperm?
Head, midpiece and tail.
Are sperm haploid (n) or diploid (2n)?
Haploid (n).
What is the function of the epididymis?
Temporarily stores spermatids until they mature into sperm cells.
What is the function of the Cowper’s glands?
Produces mucus for lubrication and sperm mobility.
What is the vulva?
The external female genitalia consisting of the opening to the vagina, covered by two layers called labia.
Is a fertilised ovum haploiod (n) or diploid (2n)?
Haploid (n).
(Meiosis II only takes places AFTER fertilisation.
