What are the three bonds that exist within a marriage?
An emotionally bond where both parties love each other and wish to demonstrate this.
A spiritual bond where they have been joined as one in the eyes of God or according to the requirements of their religion.
A legal bond where they are recognised by the law to be married
Can one be religiously married but not legally married ?
Yes - religious weddings of ethnic minorities need to be declared to he law via a civil ceremony
What is a civil marriage ?
A civil marriage is one that is conducted by the law but has no religious element to it
Does a religious ceremony meet requirements for a civil ceremony
It does not necessarily , many religious minorities have to undergo a civil as well as religious ceremony if they want their union to have a spiritual as well as legal status
Will Christians who are marrying in accordance to their faith need a civil ceremony in order to gain recognition by the law that they are married?
No - Christian churches , priests , ministers and vicars are “automatically” licensed to perform legal ceremonies
