Human Population, Carrying Capacity & Resource Use Flashcards
Define crude birth rate (CBR)
The number of live births per thousand people in a population.
Exponential growth
A growth rate which is increasingly rapidly an accelerating rate of growth
Equation for CBR
CBR = total number of births/total population x 1000
Age specific birth rate (equation)
Age specific birth rate = total number of births/1000 women of any specified year group(s)
Define infant mortality rate (IMR)
Total number of deaths of children aged under 1 year per 1000 live births
Define life expectancy (E0)
The average number of years that a person can be expected to live, given that demographic factors remain unchanged
Define doubling time
The length of time it takes for a population to double in size, assuming it’s natural growth rate remains constant
