Human Muscle Flashcards
Term: part of the muscle that is non-mobile
Origin
Term: part of the muscle that is mobile
Insertion
Decreasing angle
Flexion
Increasing angle
Extension
Coming out of the anatomical position using extension
Hyperextension
Movement away from the midline
Abduction
Movement toward the midline
Adduction
Examples of Synovial Joints
Elbows, Knees
Movement of synovial joint on longitudinal axis
Rotation
Doing flexion + extension + abduction + adduction at the same time
Circumduction
Arm an palm down, ulna and radius crossed. (proposal)
Pronation
Arm and palm up, ulna and radius parallel.(Holding bowl of soup)
Supination
Sole of foot inward toward body midline
Inversion
Sole of foot outward away from body midline
Eversion
Toes pointed up
Dorsiflexion
Toes pointed down
Plantar Flexion
Muscle most responsible for movement
Prime Mover/Agonist
Reverses movement of muscle
Antagonist
Muscles assist the prime mover in making a movement
Synergist
Type of synergist that stabilizes and fixes the origin.
Fixator
Muscle that appears purple/pink under the microscope, striated with small white(uncolored) streaks, small nuclei visible.
Skeletal Muscle
Muscle that appears purple/pink under microscope, striated, nuclei visible, has intercalated disks present(vertical dark pink line).
Cardiac Muscle
Muscle appears purple/pink under microscope, appears smooth instead of streaked, nuclei are present but not as prominent.
