Human heart test Flashcards
What is a double loop circulatory system
A circulatory system consisting of the pulmonary and systemic pathways that help the flow of blood get to parts of the body
explain how the SA node and AV node control the heartbeat
The SA node is what sends electical signals to the heart while, the AV node delays the signals before transmitting them into the ventricles controlling the rate of the heartbeat.
describe pulmonary and systemic pathways
A pulmonary pathway is where de-oxygenated blood is pumped from the hearts right ventricle to the lungs to pick up oxygen and carbon dioxide, and a systemic pathway is when oxygenated blood is pumped from the hearts left ventricle to supply nutrients and oxygen to the body.
what stimulates the muscle fibers to contract and relax rythmically
The electrical signals generated by the SA node
what is another name for SA node
Sinoatrial
How does the SA node make the two atria contract
By generating electrical impulses that travel through the atria that cause them to contract
How does the walls of the ventricles begin their contraction
by recieving electrial signals traveling from the AV node to the bundle of His.
What does ECG measure
Heart rate
Role/function for right atrium
Receives deoxygenated blood from the body and pumps it to the right ventricle
Role/function for Left Atrium
Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle
Role/function for left AV valve
prevents backflow of blood from the left ventricle to the left atrium ensuring blood flow through the heart
Role/function for the right AV valve
Prevents back flow of blood from the right ventricle to right atrium during contraction
Role/function for Semilunar valve
prevents back flow of blood and ensures a one way flow out of the heart
Role/function for Aorta
the major artery that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to all parts of the body
Role/function for Pulmonary vein
a blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the lungs
