A

1 yr - 3 yr
-Assert independence through physical distance to caregiver
-Making choices, discovering preference
-Increased independence = more confidence, secure feeling of competence
-failure through overly criticized, controlled or lack of opportunity
-Failure = feeling incompetent, dependant on others, lack of self esteem

Initiative vs Guilt

A

3 yr - 6yr
-More assertive, plan/ initiate activities,
-success = develop a sense of initiative, secure as a leader/ decision maker
-Failure is criticism or control
- Failure = guilt, remain a follower, lack initiative

A

-Develop pride, initiate projects, complete projects = positive feeling
-success is reinforcment/ ecouragement for initiave = industriousness and confidence achieving goals
-Failure = feelings of inferiority and self doubt, = failure to reach potential

-important stage
- + independence, focus on future- relationships, families,housing, etc.
- time of exploration, exploration leads to forming identity
-failure = confusion, lack of direction
