Q

Theories & concepts (5)

A

UK CLIMATE CHANGE ACT 2008
- gov sets carbon limits every 5 years
- eg. ban on sale of new petrol/diesel cars by 2030

SURRY COUNTY COUNCIL STRATEGY
- aim to be carbon neutral by (organisation) 2030 and (county) 2050

NIMBYism
- not in my backyard!

Paris Agreement 2015

Q

Primary Data

A
  • Questionnaire with a sample size of 233
  • Excel spreadsheet
  • closed qualifying question = do you live in Farnham?
Closed question = do you have a hybrid/electric vehicle?
  • provides us with quantitative data for easy analysis

Open question = what is the biggest challenge to switching to renewable energy in our area?
- varied answers and use of quotes to support findings

Q

STATS YOU NEED TO REMEMBER

A

One solar farm (Aldershot)
12% people have solar panels on their property
12% residents believe enough is being done
50% people didn’t know ban was in 2030

AGE GAP:
50+ = 15% use EV
18-30 = 3% use EV

GENDER GAP:
On who supports development of solar farms locally
Male = 28%
Female = 38%

Q

What type of sampling did we use?
& JUSTIFICATION!

A

RANDOM STRATIFIED sampling - then analysed this date using excel spreadsheet

RANDOM - chose random people to speak to
β€”> varied results - reduced bias
β€”> efficient because we had limited time

STRATIFIED - chose specific locations to stand it
β€”> ensured we were placed in different areas so we didn’t speak to the same people

Q

EVALUATION
Strengths (4)

A
  • came to a conclusion about our hypothesis
  • relevance (in the news/geography spec)
  • questionnaire was simple & effective and provided us with correct data
  • shared data on Excel (larger sample size)

16
Q

EVALUATION
Weaknesses (4)

A
  • guessed ages
  • midday so encountered more elderly and less working class
  • hard to accurately count solar panels (lots of errors)
  • bias on approachability
17
Q

EVALUATION
Improvements (2)

A
  • speak to the local council or government (they will have more knowledge and money to make change)
  • count solar panels online/digitally (remove human error)
