Disease
The alteration of homeostasis - any change from normal - a change in structure or function that is considered to be abnormal within the body
Disorder
As a derangement or abnormality of function
Syndrome
Refers to a group of symptoms, which might be caused by a specific disease but might also be caused by several interrelated problems
Signs
Are observable or measurable (ex vomiting, elevated temperature )
Pathogens
All pathogens have the ability to cause a disease or disorder, microorganisms or agents that cause disease( include bacteria, viruses, fungi)
Acute
Short term, sudden onset
Chronic
Long term, slow on set, possible life time
Auscultation
Using a stethoscope to listen to body cavities
Diagnosis
The identification or naming of a disease or condition
Etiology
The cause,the study of the cause
Prognosis
The predicted or expected outcome of the disease
Homeostasis
The state of sameness or normalcy the body strives to maintain
Exacerbation
Refers to a time when symptoms flare up or become worse
Remission
Refers to a time when symptoms are diminished or temporarily resolved
Predisposing Factors (risk factors)
Make a person more susceptible to disease
Nosocomial
A disease acquired from the hospital environment
Palliative
Something that is directed toward relief of symptoms but does not cure
Palpation
Feeling lightly or by pressing firmly on internal organs or structures
Pathologic
Caused by a pathogen or a disease a type of fracture caused by weakness from another disease
Symptom
What patients report as their problem or problems
Mortality
As the quality of being mortal that is destined to die
Complications
Altering change in disease
Idiopathic
Disease of an unknown cause
Iatrogenic
Problems due to prescribed treatment
