What are the issues of HDI?

A
  • Doesn’t show regional differences (i.e. Gender, girls not in school in Africa)
  • Countries may lie in order to receive aid
  • There are other, better indicators

What other indicators could we use instead of HDI?

A
  • HIV/AIDS rates
  • Mortality rates (particularly infants)
  • Population growth (larger populations run out of resources faster)
  • Level if emancipation (gender equality)
  • Access to contraception
  • How developed the education system is
  • Availability of cellular devices (suggesting a good/bad business environment)
