Human defence system Flashcards
Helper T cells
Recognise antigens and stimulate the production of B cells
Killer T cells
Attack cell containing foreign antigen
Supresor T cells
Stop immune responses
Memory T cells
Can memorise immunity for life
Specific defence system
An antigen antibody response involving specialised white blood cells called lymphocytes and monocytes
Lymphatic system
Drainage:returns leaked fluid to blood
Transport:lipids are absorbed from the small intestine and carried to the skin or other organs for storage
Defence:filters blood…germs that invade the body enter blood and get filtered through lymph where WBC attack them
Monocytes
Are phagocytise WBC which engulf bacteria/viruses
Immunity
Achieved by getting the disease once or preventing it using vaccine
Vaccination
Non disease causing dose of the pathogen
Antigens
Any foreign molecule capable of triggering an antibody response
Found in bacterial cell wall
Antibody
A protein which sticks to an antigen makes it for destruction by other defence cells
T Lymphocytes
Attack cells that have invading antigen on cell membrane
Perforin
Perforates the membranes of a cell
Interferon
Slim production of B cells
B lymphocytes
Mature in bone
Attack antigens of the blood-produce antibodies that surround them
Encounter matching antigen split into plasma and memory cells
