Human Computer Interface - KS3 Key Learning Flashcards
What does HCI stand for?
Human-Computer Interaction
What is HCI the study of?
Human Computer Interaction is the study of how people interact with computer devices
What is meant by WIMP?
Windows – Icons – Menus – Pointer
What are the 2 most important things to consider when designing a device
1 - who is going to be using your device (audience) 2 - what the device will be used for (purpose)
What does OS stand for?
Operating System
What does the Operating System do?
It manages the computer’s memory, processes, and all of its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak the computer’s language
Can you name at least 3 different operating systems?
- iOS (apple) - Windows 10 - Android - Linux
What does GUI stand for?
Graphical User Interface
What does WYSIWYG stand for?
What You See Is What You Get
What has the impact of WIMPs & GUIs had on computing?
Computers became easier for non-experts to use
What is the difference between an operating system and application software
The operating system enables communication between the hardware and the software, whereas application software is used to perform actual tasks e.g. write a report, produce a presentation, edit an image.
What is a wireframe?
A visual guide showing how the software functions
What is an ‘observational test’ when testing an interface?
When you set someone a task and observe them trying to use your interface
What is the purpose of making a prototype?
The purpose of making a prototype is to then test it and get feedback from the user group about how it could be improved.
Name 3 ways that you could gather feedback about a prototype
Interviews Questionnaires Observational Tests (watching the person use the device) Functional Testing (can the device complete the task it has been designed for)
