human change over time Flashcards
hominoid
primates and modern humans
hominin
hominoids that are bipedal (can walk upright)
what are three structural changes of human evolution
skull shape
faramen mognem
pelvic structure
pelvic structure
the pelvis became wider to compensate for giving birth to children with larger hears. The wider pelvis also helped us become bipedal
foramen mognem
the angle that the foramen has moved overtime. our foramen has moved back and more to the centre of our skull rather than the front
- this indicates that our human ancestors have become more upright over time
skull shape
- our skulls have become flatter
- bigger cranial size
- teeth changed to produce smaller jaws
- our foramen tucked creating a more dome shaped skull
- frontal lobe increased (problem solving, personality, language interpretation)
diet: we increased the amount of protein we were consuming
brain capacity and frontal lobe increased use of tools
technological evolution
- the use of fire as a tool (cooking food, smaller jaws)
- rocks as tools
- changed natural environmental to use tools
- clothing
cultural evolution
refers to the transmission of information from generation to generation that does not involve genetic transmission for example language rituals dancing folklaw
primates
animals that have opposable thumbs
