human brain Flashcards
it the center of our nervous system
the human brain
the brain is protected by the thick bones of our skull and a protective and nourishing fluid called—
cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
What is the main parts of the brain
cerebrum (forebrain)
brainstem
cerebellum (hindbrain)
what are the lobes of the brain
frontal lobe
parietal lobe
occipital lobe
temporal lobe
what is cerebrum also known as
cerebral cortex or forebrain
it is the largest part of the brain
cerebrum
the cerebrum is split into two halves called the
hemisphere
the two hemisphere left and right is joined by a bundle of nerve fibers called —
the corpus callosum
this part of the brain controls our personality, emotions, memory and behavior, language
communication, mood, personality
frontal lobe
this part of the brain is located behind the frontal lobe
consists of two areas:
the sensory cortex - which receives information from our senses
the motor cortex - control our limbs and body movement
also helps respond to internal sensations
pariental lobe
this part of the brain is located at the middle. the complex part of the brain.
involved in intellect and behavior (emotional memory)
large role in auditory role (hearing)
and important in processing speech
temporal lobe
the smallest part of the brain. it controls the vision
occipital lobe
this connect the cerebrum with the spinal cord
it controls function we dont think about, swallowing, breathing, digestion
brain stem
this concists all the nerve fibers that pass down from the brain to the different parts of the body
spinal cord
collective term for the three thin layers of tissue separating the brain from the skull. function is to protect the brain
meninges
also known as the hindbrain. second largest structure of the brain. at the very back of the skull. it controls our balance and coordination (motor control)`
cerebellum
it is a gland of the endocrine system. this means hormone producing gland.
pituitary gland
located in the pituitary gland. it controls hormones.
hypothalamus
