Human body systems Flashcards
What is the digestive system?
Organs that take in food and liquids and break them down into substances that the body can use for energy, growth and tissue repair.
What are the structures of digestive system?
Mouth, stomach, small intestine, large intestine
What is the function of the digestive system?
Breaks down food into substances that cells can absorb and use
What is the circulatory system?
moves blood throughout the body
What are the major organs in the circulatory system?
Heart, veins, arteries, capillaries, red blood cells
Function of circulatory system?
Delivers nutrients and oxygen throughout the body cells and picks up carbon dioxide and wastes.
What is the respiratory system?
The organs that are involved in breathing.
What are the structures of respiratory system?
Lungs and diaphragm
Function of Respiratory system?
Brings oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide
What is the Excretory system?
removes excess and waste products from the body to maintain homeostasis
Main organs of the excretory system?
Kidneys
Function of Excretory system?
DIsposes of wastes and controls body fluid levels?
What is the immune system?
A complex network of cells, tissues, organs, and the substances they make that helps the body fight infections and other diseases
Main organs of immune system?
Includes white blood cells that fight pathogens (bacteria and viruses)
Function of Immune systems?
Fights infectiosn and illnesses
What is the skelatal system?
your body’s central framework
Main organs in skelatal system?
Bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons
Function of skelatal system?
Provide support and structure to the body, blood cells are made in bone marrow of some bones.
What is the muscular system?
It permits movement of the body, maintains posture, and circulates blood throughout the body.
What are the main organs of the muscular system?
Smooth muscle, skelatal muscle and cardiac muscle
What is the function of muscular system?
Allow movement of bones and body
parts by working with the nervous and
skeletal systems
What is the nervous system?
The organized network of nerve tissue in the body
Main organs of the nervous system?
Brain, spinal cord, nerves
Function of nervous system?
helps all the parts of the body to communicate with each other
What is the endocrine system?
The glands and organs that make hormones and release them directly into the blood so they can travel to tissues and organs all over the body
Main organs of endocrine system?
Glands and hormones
Function of endocrine system?
growth and development, metabolism, and reproduction.
What is the ingegumentary system?
your body’s outer layer
Main organs of integumentary system?
Includes skin (largest organ of the
body), hair, and fingernails
Function of ingegumentaary system?
The skin protects and provides a barrier
to keep out foreign materials and to
prevent the body from drying out.
What is the reproductive system?
The tissues, glands, and organs involved in producing offspring (children)
Main organs of reproductive system?
Female: ovaries, uterus, vagina
Male: testis, penis, scrotum
Function of reproductive system?
Performs reproduction
