Human Body and Reproduction Flashcards

1
Q

Functions For Digestive System

A

To break down food into molecules the body can use (glucose)

Q

Functions For Circulatory System

A

Picks up nutrients and delivers to all other body cells
Drops off waste gas to be exhaled
Waste is cleaned by blood from the kidneys

Q

Functions For Nervous System

A

Autonomic- controls system not consciously directed
EX: digestion, respiration, and circulation
Somatic: controls voluntary functions

Q

How Do All Of The Organ Systems Interact?

A

By Homeostasis

  1. Blood Sugar (Digestive and Circulatory)
  2. Hunger Pains (Nervous System, tells muscles to pick up food, digestive)
  3. Brain and Adrenalin Systems (Hormones) do most of the regulating

Q

What would happen if one of the systems stopped functioning properly?

A

Our body would experience muscle failure as well as organ failure, and our body would fail. Red blood cells would not be produced, and movement would be impossible.

Q

What are all living molecules made up of?

Q

What is the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?

A

In Mitosis a cell nucleus replicates itself exactly. A cell with 46 chromosomes creates 2 daughter cells with 46 chromosomes in both cells. Mitosis happens during Asexual Reproduction. In Meiosis a cell with 46 chromosomes creates 4 cells with 23 chromosomes in each cell. Meiosis happens during Sexual Reproduction.

17
Q

What is the male gamete?

A

Sperm

18
Q

What is the female gamete?

A

Eggs

19
Q

Structure of DNA (Nitrogen bases)

A

Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, and Guanine

20
Q

How do nitrogen bases match?

A

A pairs with T. C pairs with G.
