Human Body and Reproduction Flashcards
Functions For Digestive System
To break down food into molecules the body can use (glucose)
Absorption of molecules into the bloodstream
Eliminate solid waste
Functions For Respiratory System
Brings in oxygen.
Gets rid of CO2
Functions For Circulatory System
Picks up nutrients and delivers to all other body cells
Drops off waste gas to be exhaled
Waste is cleaned by blood from the kidneys
Functions For Nervous System
Autonomic- controls system not consciously directed
EX: digestion, respiration, and circulation
Somatic: controls voluntary functions
How Do All Of The Organ Systems Interact?
By Homeostasis
- Blood Sugar (Digestive and Circulatory)
- Hunger Pains (Nervous System, tells muscles to pick up food, digestive)
- Brain and Adrenalin Systems (Hormones) do most of the regulating
What would happen if one of the systems stopped functioning properly?
Our body would experience muscle failure as well as organ failure, and our body would fail. Red blood cells would not be produced, and movement would be impossible.
What are all living molecules made up of?
Cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems, and organ systems make up organisms.
How many Parents are required for Asexual Reproduction?
1 parent
How many Parents are required for Sexual Reproduction?
2 parents
What are some Benefits and Disadvantages of Asexual Reproduction?
Benefits: Fast, and does not need a mate
Disadvantage: Little to no genetic diversity
What are some Benefits and Disadvantages of Sexual Reproduction?
Benefit: Genetic Diversity
Disadvantage: Slow
What are some examples of Asexual Reproduction?
Binary fission, budding, and regeneration
What are some examples of Sexual Reproduction?
Starfish by fragmentation
How does the offspring compare to the parent in Asexual Reproduction?
It has identical DNA
How does the offspring compare to the parent in Sexual Reproduction?
It has half of the necessary DNA
