Human Body Flashcards
How many types of cells are in the human body?
Humans have about 200 different types of cells in their body.
How is each cell similar?
Each cell is similar in that it holds the biological equipment (DNA) necessary to keep an organism alive and successful.
What is DNA?
DNA is biological equipment necessary to keep an organism alive & successful.
What is another name for a neuron?
Nerve cell
What is the immune cell system’s job?
Fight off invaders to keep us healthy
When similar cells combine, what is the group called?
Tissue
What is tissue?
A group of cells that work together to perform a specific function.
Skin is a type of tissue. What does the surface do?
The surface or epithelial cells work together to keep germs, bacteria, and pathogens out of your body.
How many main types of tissue are there? Name them.
There are four main types of tissues: epithelial, muscle, nervous, and connective
How many groups of connective tissue are there? Name them.
Connective tissue is divided into four groups: loose, bone, cartilage, and blood.
What is an organ?
When different tissue combines, it creates an organ. Organs work together to do a specific job for the body. The human body has many organs.
What is epithelial tissue?
Epithelial tissue lines the surface of the body, the skin.
What is muscle tissue made of?
It’s made up of fibers that contract.
What is nervous tissue?
Nervous tissue consists of cells with projections that transmit electrical signals
What does loose connective tissue do?
Acts as padding under skin & elsewhere
