Human behaviour/people movement Flashcards
Daniel
What are the stages of an evacuation?
- Alarm, 2. Pre-movement, 3. Movement
What is the RSET calculation? Which parts of it are alarm, pre-movement, and movement?
RSET = t_d + t_n + t_pre + t_trav or t_flow.
1, 2 = alarm, 3 = pre-movement, 4 or 5 = movement
What are the pros and cons of the RSET model?
Pros:
- Simple to use
- Provides evacuation time
Cons:
- Limited consideration of processes
- Evacuation treated like flow problem
What are the kinds of behaviour?
Interpret: (ignore, investigate), prepare: (instruct, explore, withdraw), act: evacuate fight, warn, wait
Explain the role-rule model
Everyone has a role associated with certain rules. e.g waiter-guest, teacher-student. People adhere to rules even in emergencies.
What are the two types of social influence?
Informational: seek info from the behaviour of others.
Normative: don’t want be different
What are the four people movement cases? (on speed/density graphs)
Horizontal, upstairs, downstairs, through openings
Why would an effective width not be necessary for an isle in a cinema?
Because body sway is only relevant for the upper body.
How do people generally move through smoke?
Move along a wall, rely on touch more than vision.
What are the parts of a visibility-speed graph?
Incapacitation and irritancy
What is affiliation theory?
Why is the closest emergency exit not chosen?
Why do people evacuate in groups?
- People move towards familiar people and places, many evacuation exits are not used
Want to break this trend through design
