human automated interaction (HAI) Flashcards
what is automation
- machine/computer assumes a task that is otherwise usually performed by a human operator.
LOW - computer provides support to facilitate an informed decision for person.
MIDDLE - computer performs basic analysis and leaved else to operator
HIGH - computer performs mid-level analysis and has basic implementation plans in place.
FULL - computer makes all the decisions under all circumstances using complex algorithms.
what is human error
- an inappropriate or undesirable decision that has the potential to reduce safety and performance.
discuss automation in aviation
- pilots cockpit and ATC
autopilot -> created by speedy in 1912, responds to and corrects any deviation from the set flight and destination parameters.
flight management systems -> allow desired flight path, interface displays a lot of data at any time.
can negatively impact performance when pilot interacts with FMS.
FMS training:
- pilots were asked to interact with FMS in a simulator when challenging scenarios occurs.
- pilots pointed out issues that needed fixing.
- training was then improved based on feedback.
what has been learnt from pilots and using the semi-autonomous driving
training -> train them on how to interact with autopilot
calibrate -> educate them on decisions based on knowledge of autonomous systems.
primary drive display -> implementation of drive displays
system transparency of status -> pilots need to be aware of the system status constantly, maintain SA
planning ahead -> strategies fro takeover of control when in autopilot.
