Human Anatomy & Physiology Overview Flashcards
Anatomy
The study of the structure and makeup of an organism
Gross Anatomy
Organ function/location
Microscopic Anatomy
Tissues and Cellular components
Physiology
Function of the body
Homeostasis
Normal body functioning
Pathophysiology
How disease affects the body
Systematic Anatomy
Anatomy and Physiology of each organ system
Regional Anatomy
Refers to specific regions of the body
Number of bones in the skeletal system and basic function?
206 & provide support, movement and protection for body structures.
Types of Muscle?
Skeletal, smooth, and cardiac
What is the lymphatic system?
A passive circulatory system that transports lymph, a thin plasma like fluid, that bathes the tissues of the body.
What is the immune system?
It is related to the lymphatic system and is paramount in the defence against invading organisms and disease.
Anatomic Position
The patient stands facing you, arms at the side, with the palms of the hands forward.
Frontal (coronal) plane
Refers to the front and back
Transverse (axial) plane
Refers to top and bottom
Sagittal (lateral) plane
Refers to the left and right
Midsagittal (midline) plane
Body is cut in half leaving equal left and right halves.
Superior
Referring to a structure that is closer to the head
Inferior
Refers to a structure that is closer to the feet.
Medial
Refers to midline, inner structure or organ.
Lateral
Refers to away from the midline.
Promixal
Refers nearer to or toward the trunk the trunk of the body.
Distal
Further from the trunk and toward the free end of an extremity.
Anterior
Refers to the front side of the body
Posterior (Dorsal)
Refers to the spinal side or back of the body.
Umbilicus is also known as the?
Naval
Midaxillary Line
A vertical line drawn through the axilla (armpit) to the waist.
