Human Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
Understand the general anatomy and physiology of the human body. Review anatomical positions, planes, directions, and regions to locate body structures.
What is the standard anatomical position?
Human body is erect and facing forward; arms are at the sides with palms forward. Feet are parallel, and arms and legs are slightly held away from the torso.
What is the purpose of anatomical planes?
They divide the body into two.
Which anatomical plane is a front and back division?
Coronal or frontal plane.
Which anatomical plane is a top and bottom division?
Transverse or cross-sectional plane.
Which anatomical plane indicates a left and right division?
Sagital or median.
What is the purpose of anatomical direction?
To identify the relation of structures in relation to other structures.
What directional term is used to indicate which structure is closer to the structure?
Proximal
Which directional term is used to indicate which structure is farther away from the structure?
Distal
Which directional term is used to indicate which structure is closer to the median line?
Medial
Which directional term is used to indicate which structure is farther away from the medial line?
Lateral
What are the principal regions of the human body? (common names)
Head, neck, trunk, upper limbs, and lower limbs
What is the anatomical name for the head?
Cephalic region
What is the anatomical name for the neck?
Cervical region
What regions are included in the trunk of the body? (anatomical names)
Thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic regions
