Human Activity Flashcards
Residential and problems
There is great pressure on local landowners and councils to develop housing or hotels in coastal locations, which may ruin the natural landscape
Demand is greater than supply so coastal homes are too expensive for some local people and homes built near are at risk of flooding
Tourism problems
Has problems with the residential, eg in Jamaica they have a 3 storey limit so the view does not become blighted by tall hotels
People are slowing eroding away the giants causeway. Not sustainable
Transport
Roads and railways that follow coastlines are more expensive to maintain.
Harbours having to dredge as industries want their products moved faster.
Industry
Ruins the coastline eg Scottish coast has seen dramatic changes due to oil extraction
