What are aptitudes?
An aptitude is the basic ability to perform certain activities better than others (Some people have inherited the ability to recall information much quicker than others, or the ability to perform in front of a group of people or the camera, or to draw, or to run faster than others).
A hereditary ability to achieve in a specific task or activity in the future.
Environmental factors play a significant role in shaping an individual’s aptitudes. While genetic predispositions provide a foundation, the environment can enhance or limit the development of those abilities.
What are abilities?
An ability is an individual’s capacity to perform various tasks in a job. Abilities can be described as the hereditary or acquired characteristics of a person that enable hirn/her to show or learn specific behaviors or skills.
What are the two components abilities can be divided into?
The first component refers to an existing or already developed ability to skill to show specific behaviour or to complete a task There are two factors in this component: skills and capacity.
The second component of ability does not refer to the learnt proficiency but to the fact that the person should be able to acquire the ability with relative ease. All these elements originated from the specific characteristics which the person has inherited: aptitude, potential, giftedness and talent.
What is a skill?
A skill can be defined as a dexterity at performing specific tasks which has been acquired through training or experience.
What is capability?
This is the ability, aptitude or fitness to do something. It is determined by the hereditary aptitude of an individual as well as by formative influences of the environment.
What is potential?
This is the characteristic that enables a person to display behaviour or characteristics of a specific kind at a later stage
What is giftedness?
A basic ability to develop and acquire skills.
Giftedness indicates having exceptional talent or natural ability (hereditary abilities called aptitudes), in at least one of four areas, namely: intellectual, creative, socio-affective and sensory/motor domains.
What is talent?
This is a high degree of hereditary aptitude in a specific area
