Humam Enquiry Flashcards
Title for our human enquiry
To investigate climate change mitigation in Purbeck
Hypothesis for our human enquiry
The community of Purbeck actively support the use of renewable energy
Why was swanage a good area for our investigation? Give 2 points
- There is a large population size and plenty of people to question within our two hour period and this allowed a largest sample size for analysis.
2.Interesting demographic with a lot of elderly people which could have an impact on the amount of new technology supported such as electric charging
3.safe and accessible area to do survey from out accommodation.
2 risks while carrying out our survey and mitigation of these
1.road traffic accident
2. Assaulted by member of the public.
1.mainly conducting surveys in pedestrianised areas, students briefed on road safety
2.completed questionnaires in groups of minimum of 3 people, students had mobile phone number in case of an accident.
What was our primary data method collection?
Questionnaires with local local residents
What were our 2 methods of secondary data collection
- Satellite images of properties to see how many used solar panels
- Used somatic maps to view. EV ChargePoint, and commercial solar and wind farms
What type of questions did we ask and why
We used closed and qualifying questions in order to produce a range of qualitative and quantitive data. The quantitive data gave us Number based data and gave us a large sample size to give accurate results.
Qualitative data gave us more in-depth access to the peoples view on climate change and renewable energy
Analysis- How did we present our data? and give 1 negative and 2 positives of how we presented it
Positive 1.Closed questions represented as Bar and pie charts which visually represented the data and allowed us to quantify the support for renewable energy.
Negative 1. We weren’t really able to incorporate our open questions as it was difficult to display a large amount of qualitative data.
Positive 2- our comparative bar chart allowed us to show qualifying questions which showed our data by gender. And this showed more females supported renewable energy by a small margin.
Evaluate key points we discovered from our investigation. (2)
1.Only a minority of people drive an electric vehicle with less than 25% for all age brackets and 5% for people aged 65 and over. Potentially because of uncertainty around new technology and because electric cars cost a lot
2. The majority (about 50%) supported or strongly supported solar farms and wind farms, with slightly less support for ensure an offshore, wind farms perhaps because of the area of natural beauty status and the need for Tourism.
Why was our investigation potentially not valid. Give two points explain them and their impact
- That was an imbalance in the number of over 50s, which was 70% of the people we surveyed. Conclusion may have been affected because if we’ve asked more people 1830 maybe would’ve been more support for renewable.
- We may have forgotten to check people lived in the local area and data, such as 50% of wind and solar supported maybe inn accurate due to day visitors. The validity is lowered because of concern, whether we interviewed the right people.
