Picaresque Novel
Consists of Huck and Jim’s adventures down the river, but also acts as a social criticism, through satirising various aspects of society and also Huck’s first person narrative. Exposes the corruption of society.
First Person Narrative
To expose society’s corruption: Nick is not judgemental “I am one of the few honest people I have ever known” “inclined to reserve judgements”.
Huck is innocent. “I’ll go to hell” “he’s white inside”.

Novel is written as a critique of society, where characters’ behaviour is held up to the audience for ridicule.
