Q

How does huck show evidence of jenkins fandom theory

A

active fans will go to social medias to find out more and look at photography to get better cultural understanding

Huck is the type of high quality magazine that is left out on coffee tables at coffee places and barbershops. People who pick these up and read a bit whilst they wait are passive fans as they are not interacting with them in any way.

Q

How does huck counterbalance jenkins fandom theory for active and passive fans

A

active fans/participants may just see the photography on socials with no context, everyone is an active participant but just scroll past having little impact on the production of the product

reading the physical copies goes against the digital age and what is expected, it is impossible to be a passive fan when viewing online

Q

What is encoded and decoded to the audience through the mongolian skaters (halls reception theory)

A

Huck encodes to its audience that these people are not as different from us. The audience decodes this through the recognisable skateboarder hobby and the people not from the western world doing it. Huck = breaking the otherness ideology.

Q

How do stories from the fringes aid the audience to take a dominant reading
(halls reception theory)

A

The readers of Huck are people who are willing to learn about different cultures and “stories from the fringes” such as in Ocolans Angels therefore they will not be passively consuming it and will be reading it with a dominant view.

Q

How does huck support the social learning theory

A

in teenage utopia the unconventional masthead layout suggests that they support the notion that rules are there to be broken (paddle against the flow)

We relearn and break existing models building new models of behaviour i.e the defiance issue- ‘defiance is a hostile act or a sign of a questioning mind’
against status quo
break and cultivate

With HUCK motivation comes from knowing you have taken part in social justice and done the ‘right’ thing according to left wing ideologies and values.

Q

How does huck support maslows hierachy of needs

A

Huck draws attention to the fact that people in Ocalan’s Angels and Teenage Utopia are only at the first level of hierarchy of needs, encouraging ABC1 individuals to help out, moving them closer to level 4

Huck addresses in there articles that for people to be motivated the higher levels of the pyramid of needs play a important part. And often if that motivation is there the lower parts of the pyramid can be substituted.
