what is a LAN
Local Area Network is usually in one building e.g. office/school
what is WAN
Wide area network usually consists of a lot of interconnected LANs

personal area network is connected devices centered on an individual persons workspace

allows many devices in one network such as computers and printers to connect together

connect 2 networks together
Modem
converts data into sound to travel along pone lines
Wireless Access Point (WAP)
Receives wireless signals from wireless devices usually found in schools/offices
Network Interface Card
allows computers to connect together using cables. Usually found in buildings which have lots of desktop computers
Transmission media (Cables)
Carry data around a network. Most common are Ethernet cables which plug into NICs
Wireless interface card
Allows wireless computers such as laptops or tablets to connect to a network via a WAP
hacking
a computer hacker is a computer expert who uses technical knowledge to achieve a goal or overcome an obstacle, within a computerized system by non standard means
Malware
any software intentionally designed to cause damage to a computer, server or client, or computer network. some examples are worms , trojan horses, ransomware, spyware etc.
Phishing
Phishing is a type of social engineering attack often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers

A brute force attack is a hacking method that uses trial and error to crack passwords, login credentials, and encryption keys
