Q

How have you demonstrated empathy at work, previously?

A

S - represented London BU for an internal initiative that enabled non-senior employees to speak their mind about the organisation to senior employees anonymously, through myself. It was my job to relay feedback to seniors and relay their actions back to non-seniors. I also would feed back to the other business units, and the global lead of this initiative.

T- this involved listening and taking appropriate action. Making sure the non-seniors felt heard, without taking irrelevant info to seniors. I had to manage expectations and keep everyone happy. Even had to make sure that seniors felt heard and ensure they didn’t feel undermined or attacked.

A - I believe I displayed exceptional listening, understanding, supporting, resolving and collaborative skills

R - I believe I fulfilled the mission of the initiative greatly as was invited to become the global lead of this initiative.

Q

Tell me about a time when there was a conflict in your team.

A

I dont know if I have had ‘conflict’ as such but I have definitely experienced a difference of opinion with senior stakeholders.

S - I was contracted at a client, for whom I reported directly to the CEO to manage their sales and customer relationships data

T - I had to create a CRM system to manage all their lead and communications data, whilst contacting customers and cold calling leads to gain new customers. The CEO was quite demanding and wanted me to hit a target of 100 calls a day, which with the other requirements of my contract was just not possible.

A - I therefore had to manage expectations whilst ensuring I was still providing my client with the support they required, whilst attending to their vision. I did this in our daily meetings by showing the data on how many calls I had done, whilst also presenting the other stuff I had done and why it was beneficial for them. ie making sure any contrast to their opinion was met with value.

R - At times it could be difficult to do what was right but also see that the client’s CEO was happy, but they clearly respected my opinion and hard work and as trusted me to invite me to support them at Salon prive and goodwood

Q

Tell me something about you that’s not on your resume FINISH - give an experience

A
  • a go-getter (driven?)/resilient?

I am great at research and decision-making.
- always find the best house to live in for the best price, the best deals on clothes, the best jobs - I do this by meticulously researching and having a holistic understanding of something. Can make very informed decisions but still in a timely manner.

OR I have a great gut instinct.

OR during covid I helped my dad and his friend with an initiative to restore old laptops. estimated 1 in 5 children didn’t have access to laptops at home. dad’s friend’s Syrian refugee friend’s English was falling behind and he didn’t have access to schoolwork. I helped to instal Linux for free and spread the word to friends that any old redundant laptops would be appreciated.

Q

Do you align w the innovation banking/SVB values? How do you demonstrate them?

  • I’m very empathetic and am there for my friends at all times. I think I am a very good judge of someone’s mood and can adapt my communication style to benefit them. my friends can always count on me.

Evidenced by my drive and determination in university studies and my efforts towards initiatives at work and how I was trusted on multiple solo projects during my placement year.

Q

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A

work wise:

Q

Tell me about a time you had to work in a team.

A

Recently,
S - started golf lessons in a ladies class where I met ladies at the same stage of golf as me
T -
A - gained so many friends outside of work
R - it’s so wholesome and we’re all helping each other, giving advice and progressing together I love it

22
Q

What is your understanding of venture capital/venture debt industry? (or other industries relevant to innovation banking)

A

helping start-ups, small companies, or fast-growing companies with funding and support to continue growth or reach their goals.

VC generally doesn’t require repayments but dilutes founder’s ownership as other investors involved (LT capital)
VD generally is a shorter term funding process and requires repayments as funding acts more like a loan (S-M-term capital)

23
Q

What interests you about start-ups?

A

being involved with companies from such an early stage in their process.
I have been a part of two start up EV companies which were both at completely different stages. One was a lot more successful than the other. Showed how a lack of processes, structure and regulation can really hinder a company and how doing stuff right really helps a company. I find it a fascinating area to be involved in as can be so rewarding to help a company and see it reach its potential.

24
Q

Who is the founder/CEO of HSBC IB?

A

Simon Clarkson

25
Q

Biggest weakness?

A
  • meticulous?
  • BIG planner? (could waste time?)

Struggle to admit defeat:

S - I have often struggled to admit defeat and ask for help. it is something I recognise and have been actively trying to work on.

T - Since jan, I have been training 4+ times a week for the Sydney half, which is happening this Sunday. for the past month I have had pain in my legs, so decided to give them a break for a few weeks whilst I was away in Japan. I came back and attempted a few runs and found my legs were just getting worse. My parents and friends were telling me it was okay to not do the race if im injured but having done so much preparation i tried to push through the pain on a few occasions to prove that my legs could get through it.

A - My last run, I attempted a 20k but 4k into it had to stop due to agonising pain and had to get the bus home as I was limping. It was then that I rang my dad and admitted I shouldn’t push it anymore and realistically my legs won’t get better before the race.

R - as soon as I told myself that I pulled out, I gained a massive sense of relief and have realised I really was putting too much pressure on myself and sometimes it’s the universes way of telling me it wasn’t the time.

26
Q

Biggest strength?

A

Interpersonal skills!!

I am incredibly emotionally intelligent and have found that I am able to empathise and adapt my communication style appropriately to a range of different people from diverse backgrounds (at uni, work, other)
- Really enjoyed my role as London rep
- friends count on me
- I had to grow up incredibly fast as a teenager

27
Q

Recent accomplishment?

A

Personal:
- stepping out of my comfort zone and not going with the plan I had always set out for myself. - coming to Australia and not having a plan.
- have now gone to Japan!! which have always wanted to go to. Have opened my eyes to seize opportunities when they arise and just go for it. To be more impulsive and take risks.

Academically:
- completing my university studies throughout a really difficult stage in my life. Missed about a month of uni and managed to come back stronger and determined for it not to affect my grades. Proved my resilience.

28
Q

Recent disappointment?

A

Not completing the half marathon - could also be an accomplishment that I decided to pull out??

29
Q

a piece of advice that sticks with you? / you’d tell your younger self.

A

Trust your gut and enjoy yourself more
- at school would have done better if I trusted my gut (in a-levels and socially)
- 2023 New Years resolution was to trust my gut and was the first time I ever stuck to a resolution (was actually able to reflect at the end of the year) and can hand on heart say it drastically improved my life

30

  • good listener (always listen and think im good at gauging whether they want advice and solutions or just comfort and support)
  • ambitious and driven (up to you to give yourself gifts for the future)
  • busy/chaotic lol (always on the move/doing something/hard to pin down whoops)
  • I always manage to find the best opportunities (good research??) (eg London flat and broker job and salesman job - its not what you know, its who you know!)

35
Q

why work with large corporate clients?

A

I am excited by the prospect of supporting large entities with my work. Utilising my skills to pioneer change for entities that actually have a voice and can make a difference

36
Q

What do you hope to get out of this scheme?

A
  • to continue my learning and learn fundamentals of finance (miss the learning element of uni)
  • have my eyes opened to problems that a range of different clients face in innovation industry
  • to build a strong network
37
Q

Describe a period, project, or situation where you faced adversity then provide the solution as to how you handled it. /
Describe a time you lost control of a project/something didn’t go to plan/ a stressful project/ met tight deadlines

A

DISSERTATION
1. lost ~3 weeks of uni for personal issue
2. led me to be behind slightly on research and starting my lit review
3. also made me late to chase suppliers for the materials (different types of steel) we wanted (already spoke to them before Christmas but I wasn’t able to keep pressurising them over jan (exams) and feb)
4. then suppliers weren’t replying to me so I decided to change tack to testing Ti (as already had it in the workshop) - wasn’t what I had initially set out to do but at least we could test something
5. then when we tried to cut the samples in the workshop the two milling machines BROKE
6. then the technicians got COVID
7. so the samples were then able to be made and ready for the MONDAY and my dissertation was due in on the FRIDAY
8. prepped as much as I could and pulled it out of the bag
