HSB Flashcards
What is cells?
Cells are the smallest entities of life and serve as the tissues in organisms.
What is an organelle?
These are specialised structures within the cell that perform specific functions like chloroplasts.
What does the cell membrane do?
It allows substances in and out of the cell by diffusion.
What does the cell wall do?
It helps to support the plant cell when it is full of fluid.
What does the mitochondria do?
It release energy from food during respiration.
What does the nucleus do?
It contains chromasomes with the genes having plans for making proteins.
What does ribosomes do?
It makes protein from amino acids.
What does endoplasmic do?
It allows passage of substances in the cell and has ribosomes attached.
What does reticulum do?
It allows the passage of substances through the cytoplasm.
What does cytoplasm do?
It helps with the storage of ions, nutrients and cellular waste products or where chemical reactions takes place.
What does chloroplast do?
It makes sugars from water and carbon dioxide - where phtosynthesis occurs.
What does fully permeable mean?
It means that a material or membrane pass through without any restrictions.
What does partially permeable mean?
It means that it allows certain substances and block others.
What is a specialised cell?
These are cells designed to carry out roles such as red blood cells to carry oxygen.
