What two kinds of fouls are team fouls? What do these count towards?
Any personal or technical foul (except indirect technical fouls) which is charges to either team. All are counted to reach the bonus free-throw.
What is a player control foul?
A common foul committed by a player while he/she is in control of the ball or by an airborne shooter
What is a team control foul?
A common foul committed by a member of the team that has team control (including a member of the throw-in team until player control is obtained inbounds)
What is a double-personal foul?
When two opponents commit personal fouls against each other at approximately the same time
What is a double-technical foul?
When two opponents commit technical fouls against each other at approximately the same time
What is a false-double foul?
When there are fouls by both teams, the second of which occurs before the clock is started following the first
What is a simultaneous foul?
Can be personal or technical, by opponents in a situation in which there are fouls that occur at the same time, but not committed by opponents against each other
What is an unsporting foul?
A noncontact technical foul for behavior not in accordance with the spirit of fair play
What is a multiple foul?
When two or more teammates commit personal fouls against the same opponent at approximately the same time
What is a common foul?
A personal foul which in neither flagrant nor intentional nor committed against a player trying or tapping a field goal nor part of a double, simultaneous, or multiple foul
What is a personal foul?
A player foul which involves illegal contact with an opponent while the ball is live, which hinders an opponent from performing normal defensive or offensive movements. Also includes contact by or on an airborne shooter when the ball is dead
What is a flagrant foul?
A personal or technical foul of a violent or savage nature, or a technical noncontact foul which displays unacceptable conduct. May or may not be intentional.
What is an intentional foul?
A personal or technical foul that may or may not be premeditated and is not based solely on the severity of the act
How long is an extra period (overtime)?
4 minutes
What causes and happens on an indirect technical?
The foul is charged to the head coach, result of a bench technical foul being assessed to bench personnel
How far and wide is the 3-point line?
19 ft. 9 inches and 2 inches wide
What are the optimum dimensions for a HS basketball court? What are acceptable?
50 ft. wide x 84 ft. long; 50 ft. wide x 94 ft. long
Where does the coach’s box start and how long is it?
Starts at the 28 ft. mark and extends 14 ft. toward the end line

What is an interrupted dribble?
When the ball is loose after deflecting off the dribbler or after it momentarily gets away from the dribbler. There is no player control during an interrupted dribble.
When does a player have control of the ball?
When he/she is holding or dribbling a live ball
When does team control of a ball end?
When the ball becomes dead; when the ball is in flight durning a tap or goal; an opponent secures control
How many time-outs does a team have per game? How many are granted in the extra period and do left over time-outs carry over?
Three full (60 second) and Two 30-second time-outs; each team is given one additional full time-out for overtime and left over time-outs do carry over
What happens on a intentional foul?
Two free-throws plus the ball for throw-in
What happens on a flagrant foul?
Two free-throws plus the ball for throw-in
There are no free-throws for…
- A player-control or team-control foul
- For double personal or technical fouls
- For simultaneous personal or technical fouls by opponents
What happens on a player-control foul when the ball goes through the basket?
The goal will not be counted, regardless of whether the basket occurred before or after the foul
