HR Questions Flashcards
Why United?
When I think about the most important thing for me in aviation, I think safety, without safety awareness we all would be jobless very fast. I know United Airlines were the first one to implement safety procedures into their SOP’s and in my opinion- this is the most important thing, you can be the best pilot on earth, with the best skills and the best training and you might be able to get out of a dangerous situation, but if you are a safe pilot you wouldn’t be in a dangerous situation from the first place. I know that United Airlines is one of the safest airline if not the most, worldwide
Tell me about a time when you didn’t get along with someone and how you addressed it.
Communication is key. If you are frustrated with someone there is a good chance that they are feeling frustrated too. Try not to aggravate the situation, discuss the problem at hand, and find a way to come up with a solution to what is going on.
Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a coworker
Just the other day my friend started to feel sick. I was about to clock out and had some extra time before I had to be home. I ran to the store and got some medicine for her to help her feel better and to help her push through the rest of her shift.
Tell me about a time that you did something creative to solve a problem
In flight it is better to expect the unexpected rather than to count on everything going smoothly. It is important to be alert at all times and to be ready to handle unexpected situations when they do occur. S- situation: simulated engine failure in flight T- task: make proper corrections using the dead foot technique and feathering procedures A- Assessment: there are instances where I have accidentally put in the wrong rudder pressure while going through the correction process. I recognized my mistake prior to making the situation worse and shutting down the wrong engine (identify, verify) R- Results: successful landing on a single engine
Would you chose to do the right thing instead of doing the wrong thing even though you knew you could get away with it?
Integrity is one of the most important traits of a person. I hold myself to very high moral standards. If you aren’t going to so something right you should not be doing that thing at all. S- situation: at western we have different gates we use to enter the airport. It is very important everyone abides by the rules of entering the gates because it is a way for tower to monitor the traffic coming in. T- task: people sometimes avoid going to the gates so that it is a shorter flight and they can get on the ground faster because legally they are not required to follow these procedures. However, this causes unnecessary safety problems in a high traffic environment. A- Assessment: Procedures like that are there for a reason. Not to make things more difficult for you. R- results: think about the problems that can arise when you choose to cut corners and take the easy route
Have you ever been the cause of a change of company policy or procedure?
When I was flight instructing they changed a fueling procedure based off a recommendation I made
Have you ever had to work against a time constraint?
Deadlines from previous work experience outside of flying.
Tell me about a time you addressed someone’s concerns about you
Talked with them privately about the situation. Getting both viewpoints is essential in hashing out disagreements and own your mistakes.
Tell me about a time you mentored someone
Brought up how I was experienced with an organization I was involved with and helped bring the freshman into the group and up to speed on the organizations goal.
Tell me about a time you led a diverse team
Talk about how you brought everyone together to work towards a common goal, using each person to their strengths.
Tell me about a time you had to prove yourself to someone
I brought up how I was a part of my schools flight team. With regional competition coming up I wanted to be a part of the competition team. We had tryouts scheduled in the next coming weeks. I practiced a lot for them, flying with more experienced people on the team to learn from them. With both my hard work practicing and knowledge gained for the events I was competing in I managed to get a spot on the team for the up coming regional competition.
Tell me about a time you had to adapt to a change
I talked about how I did private at a local fbo before going to a 141 school and the big culture shift and level on knowledge for the level I was at when I transferred
Tell us about yourself
Bring up what got you into aviation, how your education and career advanced, and what organizations you were involved with and your leadership roles in those organizations if any
What was your hardest flight?
Hardest flight was dealing how to deviate around a hurricane. Lots of factors to take into considerations. Diverts, fuel, turbulence. Etc
Tell about about a time you were pressured to do something you knew was wrong
I had a time where a flight instructor put pretty unreasonable expectations on me before going on a solo flight as a commercial student and something ended up going wrong on the flight. Talked with both instructor and chief flight instructor about what happened and why those expectations were detrimental to my flight. Learned to speak up even to someone in power over you just to open a healthy conversation about what needs to be discussed.
