define a stereotype
A
generalisations we make about specific social groups, and members of those groups

what is a social schemata?
A
where members of a group share soma characteristics, it’s a ‘shortcut’ but overlooks diversity.

A
- classical conditioning- association with other stimuli
- operant condtioning- behaviour reinforced by rewards and punishments
- social learning theories- observing others’ behaviour and see what’s rewarded and punished

give an example of classical conditioning
A
anticipatory nausea in chemotherapy

what is the health beliefs model?
A
patients weigh up the beliefs about health threat and beliefs about health related behaviour and cues to action which cause action.

name some of the limitations of the health beliefs model.
A
- rationale and reasoning-often consequences are only thought about after the fact
- decisions- habit, conditioned behaviour, coercion
- emotional factors- fear
- incomplete- self-efficacy, broader social factors
