Hpe Flashcards
Define Locomotor.
Movements that are performed by moving the body around a space.
Define Non-Locomotor.
Movements that can be performed without much space.
Define Gross Motor Skills.
Movements that involve large muscles of the body. Require less precision.
Define Fine Motor Skills.
Involve small movements and less muscles. Require more precision.
Define Closed Skills.
Are performed in a controlled and stable environment. Skills are not affected by the environment as they follow exact movements and patterns.
Define Open Skills.
Performed in a varied environment which may constantly change. Movements in the sport quickly adapt.
Define Discrete Skills.
Specific movements that have a distinct beginning and end.
Define Continuous Skills.
Bring together discrete movements in repetitive movements.
Define Serial Skills.
Linked movements to make sequence more difficult.
What are the six characteristics of a skilled performer?
- Perform consistently
- Timed movements perfectly
- Appear to have ‘all the time in the world’
- React quickly with precision
- Adapt their skills to suit the performance
- Responses are ideal to the task.
What are the stages of learning?
- Cognitive (understanding)
- Associative (practice)
- Autonomous (automatic)
Define the Cognitive stage of learning.
- Make frequent errors
- Needs lots of feedback
- Slow, just getting the general idea of the task.
Define the Associative stage of learning.
- Refine the accuracy and consistency of the motor skill
- Reduce error
- Know how to rather than what to do.
Define the Autonomous stage of learning.
- Doesn’t require feedback
- Comes easy
- Doesn’t have to think when performing.
What are slow twitch muscle fibers?
Smaller muscle fibers used for everyday movements, they do not fatigue easily. They do not require maximum effort.
