Whats first aid
The first steps taken to help someone with an injury or illness
Whats an emergency
an emergency is an unexpected situation that harms your safety
What is an emergency response
Is the first response to an emergency
What is a hazard
something that can cause you, individuals or the casualty harm
What is a risk
The likelyhood of a hazard causing harm
what does DRSABCD stand for
D-danger, R-response ,S-send for help, A-airway, B-breathing, C-CPR, D- Defib
What do you do for the D in DRSABCD
Check for anything that can cause you, indivduals or the casualty harm
What do you do for the R in DRSABCD
Check for response using the COWS method, gently shake shoulder and ask for permisson
What does COWS stand for
Can you hear me, Open your eyes, whats your name, squeeze my hand
What do you do for the S in DRSABCD
Get a bystander to ring 000 using the 4p’s method and ask for a defib if casualty isn’t breathing
What do you do for the A in DRSABCD
Roll casualty into recovery position and check for obstruction in the airway using the pistol grip
What do you do for the B in DRSABCD
Roll on back and check for breathing using the look listen feel method.
What do you do for the C in DRSABCD
Start compressions 30:2 and don’t stop until help arrives, person regains consciousness or you physically can’t any more
What do you do for the D in DRSABCD
Defib apply defib to casualty if person is still not breathing
How many types of skin cancer are there
3
What are the 3 types of skin cancer
SCC
BCC
Melanoma
Whats sunburn
The reaction to over UV exposure
Whats heat stroke
When the body goes over 40 degrees and can be fatal
Signs of heatstroke
headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and confusion
having flushed, hot and unusually dry skin
being extremely thirsty
having a dry, swollen tongue
having a sudden rise in body temperature to more than 40°C
being disoriented or delirious
slurred speech
being aggressive or behaving strangely
convulsions, seizures or coma.
may be sweating and skin may feel deceptively cool
rapid pulse.
Whats heat exhaustion
the bodies reaction to loss of salt or water conatined in salt
Signs of heat exhaustion
headaches
having a raised body temperature
sweating heavily
fatigue, weakness, and restlessness
nausea and vomiting
weak, rapid pulse
poor coordination
anxiety.
whats the 4p’s

Problem
What is ricer and what does it stand for
A management stragetgy for soft tissues injuries
Rest, Ice, Compression, elevate, refer
Whats the three types of burns
superfical, partial thickness, fullthickness
What is the treatment for burns
Follow DRSABCD.
If the burn is severe or if it involves the airway, call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance. hold the burnt area under cool running water for 20 minutes.
Remove any clothing and jewellery from burnt area, unless they are stuck to the burn.
Cover the burn with a light, loose nonstick dressing, preferably clean,
check the patient for shock, and treat if necessary
What animals require cold compression treatment
Ticks, ants, bees, wasps, redback spiders, scorpion
what animals require pressure immobiliztion
snakes, cone shell, blue ring octopus and funnel web spiders
what animals need vinegar treatment
irkandji and box jelly fish
what animals require hot water compression
stonefish, jelly fish, bluebottle, stingray
Whats anaphylaxis
a severe allergic reaction that can be fatal if untreated
treatment for anaphylaxis
Call triple zero and use epi pen
whats shock
Shock is a critical condition brought on by the sudden drop in blood flow through the body. Shock may result from trauma, heatstroke, blood loss or an allergic reaction.
Signs of shock
Pale, cold, clammy skin.
Shallow, rapid breathing.
Difficulty breathing.
Anxiety.
Rapid heartbeat.
whats the treatment for shock
